Great question! Here's some advice. 👇

There used to be a great radio show called The Show What You Wrote which had a similar open door policy to Newsjack but was not topical. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04fdcqq https://twitter.com/DWCharlton86/status/1358764405232656385
I really wish the BBC would bring it back as there are great sketch writers out there who don't happen to specialise in topical material.

There are far more open-door opportunities for topical sketches;

@NewsjackBBC
@jonholmes1 The Skewer
@NewsRevue
@Treason_Show
etc.
My advice if you're just starting out would be to get involved in a non-topical sketch podcast with an open-door policy. For example;

@SketchPleasePod
@clownshq
@NextLevelSketch

Disclaimer: the last one was set up by a group of students from my sketch comedy courses. 🎉
Lots of my students form sketch groups eg. The Alpha Mums, Swift Half, Free Mondays, The Three People
Good luck! And do let me know of any other opportunities I should know about as I'm always on the lookout for writing opportunities to pass on to my students and people just starting out.
This might be a useful thread for new upcoming comedy writers so I'll tag in @bbcwritersroom @TheLCW #WritingCommunity #writing
