Today's the day. @newsobserver, joined by other media outlets, will fight for the release of the DHHS death investigation records of John Neville. Three of our reporters filed for the DHHS records in June and July last year, around the same time we were fighting to learn what happened to Neville that led to his death and for the body-camera footage. The records were suppose to be released a week ago.
Forsyth prosecutors instead went to a judge without our knowledge and had the records sealed. These are the records that, while we were fighting for more info, the General Assembly attempted to stop them from being public any longer. The Governor vetoed the bill (S168). #ncpol
We were told to be in court in Winston-Salem this afternoon to fight for them.
