In Mahabharat there's a mention of the word JAN SADAN-- people's committee.
It proves that ancient Indians had a DEMOCRATIC system in place atleast since 10,000 years.

Inside this tiny temple 1100 yrs old temple, Shri Vaikuntavasa Perumal in Uthiremerur, there r inscriptions on the walls which talk abt method of ELECTING people's representatives, how people should lead their life, and how assets belonging to the temple should be used.

I also believe that since bigger temples came under waves of FOREIGN attack, proof of democracy hs bn erased frm them.
So it is tiny temples like that in Uthiramerur which retain the legacy our ancestors left for us.
