"Puberty blockers" were first used for transgender health in 1988. The adolescents who received them, in the Netherlands, are now in their mid 40's and doing great according to over 20 years of follow up studies. This treatment is not experimental it is evidenced best practice.
Dulcan & Lee treated a trans male youth aged 17 in 1982. "Although Steven might be considered by some to be too young to begin hormone treatment, the prospect of waiting yet another year, or longer, was unbearably painful for him" CW: medical transphobia https://www.jaacap.org/article/S0002-7138(09)60517-3/pdf
On hormone blockers, here is a helpful overview of the research - covering over 30 peer reviewed papers https://growinguptransgender.com/2020/06/10/puberty-blockers-overview-of-the-research/
For a historical & intersectional perspective of the use of hormone treatments in trans adolescents & intersex children (over nearly 100 years of medicine), I can highly recommend 'Histories of the Transgender Child' by @gp_jls.
