Can we pause on this @RochelleHumes Candice Braitwaite #colourism row and look at the big picture. Colourism is an issue in society but lets not START by tearing each other down in asinine debates about how black is black and who gets to comment. Here's the real truth. M/f
If 1 in 20 white women was dying in childbirth there we wouldn't be able to turn on the tv without seeing programmes about it. The programmes would look at it from the science POV, from the POV of a widower, from a midwife POV, celeb POV, Rochelle's POV and Candice's POV. M/f
The hard truth is colourism means black skinned women are invisible on tv, but tbh mixed race women fare little better. Both have the right to work and have their voices heard and attacking each other for decisions we don't take makes no sense, and gets us nowhere. M/f
The reason people are fighting like rats in a sack is because we know we'll get one shot at this film - same way we got one version of a lovers rock party, one black comedian etc. It encourages us to turn on each other rather than ask the bigger question - why only one film? M/f
We need to ask the bigger questions. Where are these decisions made? Who's making them? How diverse are that group? How do we influence them or change them? What are we going to do if there no change? Let's stop asking for the crumbs and start demanding our share of the cake.
