Today the #ArmedForcesBill will have its 2nd reading in the Commons.@poppyscotland welcomes the Bill as it seeks to strengthen the Armed Forces Covenant and cement it into law.
However, we join with @PoppyLegion and @HelpforHeroes in calling for the Bill to go further

The areas we would like to see the Bill improved are:
Widen the policy scope. Currently the Bill applies to a limited number of areas. This should be expanded to include areas such as immigration and pensions.

Expand the Bill to ensure all levels of Government, including @scotgov, are accountable on all the issues that are covered by the Covenant. Currently the Bill applies only to local councils. 3/5
Introduce an enforcement mechanism to ensure that public bodies are held to account if a member of the Armed Forces community feels that they have not been treated correctly. 4/5
The Armed Forces Bill is a golden opportunity to enhance the delivery of the Covenant to the Armed Forces Community. By taking the Bill further we can ensure that the Covenant is fit for purpose and that it truly delivers for those who have served our country.
