The main Kenya National Library at Upper hill @knlsmedia re-opened last week. The swanky space is now open to the public after going through some major upgrade. This weekend, the kids and I went back. Thread
The library entrance now faces the NHIF building. To welcome you in are great artworks that pay homage to two Kenyan Heroes; Ciokaraine M'Mbarungu (1900)- A Heroine diviner, political leader & activist and Koitalel Arap Samoei (1860-1905) #KNLS
It would have been great to see artwork that celebrates heroes along the lines of reading/learning etc but oh well, the two additional sculptures do celebrate learning with one being more modern & the one depicting the art of story reading by parents to their children #KNLS
As we got in, the foyer blew us away. The floor work, & the use of drum is amazing. There's a huge bookshop to the left of the information desk and a braille center to the right #KNLS
On the 1st floor is where they have the children's library. Its spacious, well stocked with books catering to all ages ages (few Swahili and African language books though). There's a play area as well as a kids theatre (forgot to take a photo) for the monthly reading club #KNLS
Finally, they have a picnic space outside that you can have your meals (no restaurant inside yet & food is not allowed in the library) The kids were fascinated by the telephone booth. It took a while for me to explain how that contraption worked

The adults library is on the 2nd floor and has adequate space & desks for study. They also provide free WiFi & free ample parking. If you are looking for a past-time for your self/family, definitely worth checking out. They haven't resumed lending books though (usually 5 bob)

For the adult's section, entry is Ksh.20 bob per day. One can borrow a maximum of 2 books at Ksh. 20 each for 2 weeks
For the Kid's library, entry is free, kids can borrow a max of 2 books at Ksh. 5 each for 2 weeks #KNLS

I realize this last tweet on the rates wasn't quite clear.
Ksh. 20 (or 5 for kids) covers each book you borrow for a period of up to 2 weeks.
They discourage defaulting on borrowed books thus they will charge you a daily rate for any additional days you stay with the book
