Convenors and presenters should soon be receiving instructions & guidance regarding the format of their sessions.
Ahead of this, we would like to provide some further info for delegates about this format and how it is intended to work...
We know that the defining characteristic of SLSA conferences is the opportunity for discussion, feedback, networking, spontaneous thoughts, & bubbling ideas.
This is often difficult to replicate in virtual environments, and is something we've all sorely missed this past year.
This is often difficult to replicate in virtual environments, and is something we've all sorely missed this past year.
The SLSA conference has also grown enormously over the past 3 decades. #SLSA2021 will host over 500 papers from 43 countries across 32 streams. This creates pragmatic issues for a virtual world (keeping everything running on time!), but also shows the richness of our community.
By necessity, therefore, the conference format will include a balance of pre-recorded & live presentations. However, the opportunity for live face-to-face discussion, collaboration and ideas will be central to every single session.
The Virt-US conference platform allows us to retain live face-to-face conversations between presenters & audiences, opportunities to meet & network, an interactive poster gallery, & large-scale plenary events which bring delegates together live throughout the conference.
Taking this approach means that delegates will not only be able to attend sessions that display the broad range of expertise and research that the SLSA is proud to accommodate, but also allows these vital hallmarks of the SLSA conference to continue online in a virtual world.
