Many have wondered that if the opposition to the farm bills is genuine then why despite such concerted efforts to widen it, the protests have not picked up anywhere else except the pockets outside Delhi?

Not Bengal, not Maharashtra, not even Tamil Nadu is protesting.

Why? 1/5
As PM @narendramodi said in RS, proportion of micro farmers in India - those who hold less than 1 acres farm land - is up to 68% as per latest data. This was 51% in 1971.

If we add micro and small farmers proportion - those who hold less than 2 acres - that number is 86%. 2/5
Policies of Congress governments since independence and specifically post 1971 have done two things:

A) Led to more fragmented agriculture and smaller farmers living at almost subsistence levels

B) Growth of a small breed of rich farmers who hoard most government support. 3/5
Farm loan waivers; insurance policies that only went to those who took farm loans (by definition big farmers); few states monopolizing MSP procurement and that too through Arhtiyas - all of this favored bigger/richer farmers.

All this while the small farmer was left behind. 4/5
PM Modi's policies - such as PM Kisan - and specifically 3 farm laws empower small farmers. It is they who would benefit with new technology, better market access & logistics.

It is THIS REASON WHY MINISCULE MINORITY OF FARMERS ARE PROTESING while rest of India is supporting.5/5
