Been listening to Joeboy’s new album all weekend, Somewhere Between Beauty and Magic; and first off I’ll say nice Album Title. It’s a wonderful project and I love the fact that Joeboy “no do pass himself”, he did what he knows best and it came out well.
I just have a few issues with the album and one is the song selection. An album as we know should be an experience not just a collection of singles. What Joeboy dropped sounded like a playlist than an album.
Like he picked random songs, added it to a file, found a sweet title for it and called it an album.
Secondly, The 2-min track trend throughout the album. In my opinion, that’s nonchalance for an album.

But If he already adopted that as his style, cool.
Thirdly, in as much as the album had a defined message (Love), the song arrangement wasn’t professional.
An example of a good Album structure is:
1. Eerie – To set an initial mood
2. Happy – A little switch up

1. Eerie – To set an initial mood
2. Happy – A little switch up
3. Nostalgia – A mix between 1 & 2
4. Intense – Each consecutive song compliments the previous one.
5. Minimalistic/Sad – clearly different from the previous song.
6. Hopeful – To set a final mood

Not saying he has to follow this particular pattern, but the album itself didn’t have any.
And for an album to be called ‘Quality’, having a defined Arrangement is very Key.
And yes, for the first time on a project, Joeboy’s sound wasn’t completely monotonous. He diversified.

For example, He showed off a distinct vocal range on Police. Songs like Door and Better thing had a unique melody not typical of Joeboy.
I also heard a bit of falsetto in Number one and Show me, Amapiano too on Consent too. Good one from him.

Lastly, you can’t deny the Album gives this beautiful feeling while listening. Aside from the few flaws I listed above, the album was creative. I foresee a high replay value.
My favorites on the Album were Focus, Sugar mama, Police, Runaway and Door.
It’s a 6.5/10 for me. Wby?
