Good to see a bit of blue-tick journo gaslighting happening on the twitz.

The Age journalist may or may not have received death threats. I have no position on that.

What I find astonishing (tone-deaf elitism) is the stern lectures being dished out for people's cynicism.

There is an entire multi-billion dollar industry centred around PR/Spin/Communications/InformationManipulation.

This industry provides over half the copy you read, hear or watch in traditional media.

Journalists know this.

The public knows this.
In a post-Trump era the public is well aware of the amount of falsehoods peddled every day in traditional media.

Whether it's misinformation by design or not - the public know. They know about the spin.

The public is now deeply cynical. And for good reason.
So for some journos to once again monopolise the moral high ground by chastising the public for being cynical over Gay Alcorn's death threat's story is to miss some very important points.

It's like yelling at a child that's been repeatedly beaten because they shy away from you.
The reason so many people are cynical about what traditional media tell them in 2021 is because of traditional media itself.

Don't chastise the public for their natural reticence.

Don't blame the public for their disbelief.

Blame the beast you are a part of.
