interesting Clubhouse room now where Cantonese speakers from HK and Guangzhou are discussing a range of issues. a GZ-based speaker just said "the so-called Greater Bay Area" is just one of those national-level projects that most people don't really care about.
a Shenzhen-based guy now says he's envious of the spirit of resistance in HK. said he had attended school in Sha Tau Kok (at the border) and that while protests against things like parallel traders can be upsetting to him he understands why HK ppl are fighting back.
a HK-based woman is now asking a mainland moderator about their thoughts on Cantonese preservation, including the 2010 GZ protests. "CCP's language policies are like cooking a frog slowly in boiling water," replies the moderator. they dilute Canto culture by diluting the pop, eg
...moderator continues and says GZ ppl know how to resist and have done so in the past. but he said some have faced bullying from little pinks who accuse them of "Guangdong independence," citing the example of a campaign to use a Canto textbook for schools...
....and someone is snoring really loudly, having fallen asleep while on Clubhouse.
a HK woman now says shes feels very excited now that she's learning more about what Guangzhou-ers are doing to preserve their culture, and that she didn't know much about it at all until now.
now a discussion where people are sharing their memories of Southern Weekly, the once-influential investigative newspaper based in GZ. crazy.
