As @pawan_aflatoon rightly said, these self proclaimed activists won’t be able to differentiate between dams - are basically so challenged that they have named glaciers (someone claimed it to be NandaDevi Glacier & CNBC named it Alaknanda glacier) from completely diff valleys!
Firstly note how the disaster site is a completely different valley - Niti Valley - Alaknanda head is in Mana Valley ahead of Sri Badrinath Jee - Alkapuri is the name of the glacier and is at the base of various famous peaks -so, NO IT IS NOT ALAKNANDA GLACIER
Now @ParveenKaswan identified this as NandaDevi glacier - perhaps he mistook this as part of NandaDevi National Park- which is spread between both valleys. Check second pic for the exact location of Nanda Devi peaks
To simplify, #Uttarakhand hills are not one common mass but is actually a geographical aggregate of several river valleys- it is just that these rivers keep merging in each other to eventually give us Ganga jee so we take them as all similar- when they r completely diff terrain!
If u stand at Joshimath- you can actually head towards two completely different river valleys - Niti & Mana. RishiGanga river basin in Niti Valley ahead of Tapovan is actually very wide as compared to Mana valley - which is narrow & opens up only near SriBadrinath Ji!
Infact as compared to Mana Valley, Niti valley is a driver’s delight as the road in this valley is stable and has long stretches as compared to Mana Valley - where road ends at Mana village- left side trek takes u towards Alkapuri & drive on ridge takes u towards Tibet border!
I even saw one idiot talk of how Bhagirathi river valley is also affected.... I mean if such person would have been in front of me, I would prefer to slap him instead of explaining him the diff. I mean nahin maaloom to expert to mat bano na!
