Reflecting on the fact that back home in Lebanon my parents were SUPER PROGRESSIVE. Here it all changed, they levitated towards conservatism. It was easier to just fall in line than to push back, they wanted acceptance so much. Home here they were so strict, especially compared-
To Australians. And whilst they were still ~relatively~ chill compared to other newly immigrated families, it was such a change & shock to experience that vast huge difference in cultural understanding & approach. Back home they were rule breakers! Fighters! Change makers!
Here they just worked so hard to tow the line and keep us fed and comfortable. It makes me wonder if they regret having to give up so much of themselves to be here you know?
Gravitated?? Not levitated. No one floated like a vampire towards John Howard, unfortunately.
