We cannot forget that public schools (all public schools) should be funded adequately. When the percentage of the state budget going towards education is lower in 2021 than it was in 2008, there’s a problem. Local communities can’t cover the losses forever.
Unfortunately, many people fall for the line that funding is higher than ever (because $19 was added to seek). However, they fail to tell you about transportation losses, professional development losses, textbook losses, etc... Odd this never comes up in their PR message.
It’s crazy that all day kindergarten or preschool isn’t funded by KY’s budget. If you want to add a second language for brain development, not funded. A quality music program, not funded. Computer science, not funded. If you want advanced programing, you have to raise a tax!
Yet, our legislators give millions and millions away in tax exemptions. It’s odd that they so easily expect local districts to pass a tax, yet the legislators won’t discuss a tax or measures to increase revenue. This is maddening!
I wonder when local boards will start refusing to take tax increases unless the state increases funding. SEEK winners & losers are in the same position because no one can excel wo proper funding. The legislators have $ this year...wonder how it will be used? I hope everyone 👀’s!
