Here's the thing about hostile architecture: You're building cities for humans, that don't accommodate humans. People with disabilities, unhoused folks, elders, need places to rest. Heck, those waiting for the bus, walking with many bags, have small kids, all need places to rest!
Hostile architecture tells certain groups of people, "This city isn't built for you." It doesn't have you in mind, and it doesn't have your best interest at heart.

Hostile architecture caters to the rich, able-bodied, young, and male. To those who don't want to see 'that.'
Hostile architecture is essentially privatizing public place by expelling the public from its space. Defensive urban design purposefully creates an unsafe, unwelcoming space, because it does not want you there. Its goal is to keep people out.
Hostile architecture is a form of policing. It inserts itself between public space and marginalized individuals. It enforces 24/7. It further stigmatizes. It causes more damage to oppressed communities. It's a cop made out of metal.
