So anyway, a young man named Dave tried debating me today on the topic of Christians & being judgemental. He was having a pop at another Tweeter.

This argument is frequently put forward but you know what, it's wrong every time. I know a lot of people think it's a cunning...
... debating strategy, even a lot of Christians buy into it, but probably indicates a lack of understanding about what the bible actually says about judgement.

My new best friend Dave certainly felt confident that the 'Gospels' supported him, until I quoted Jesus and then the...
... wheels came off his argument. He of course opted for deflection and denial, but I'm pretty sure that when Jesus is on my side in a debate about... well... Jesus and God, that probably means I win. It's just a hunch.

So anyway, the old Christians can't be judgemental thing...
... is often used these days by "progressive" types to silence criticism, counter disapproval etc. A lot of people fall for it, but I'm not one of those people.

The bible doesn't say that you can't judge others, it says you should be prepared to judge yourself as well and be...
... prepared to be judged, ultimately by God. You can judge others if you do it for the right reasons and if you're not being a hypocrite.

I referred young Dave to Matthew 7:6 which is actually a quote of Jesus using a metaphor about not throwing pearls (your precious things)...
... to pigs and dogs (unclean and dangerous animals) which you can take as meaning undesirable people. I'd suggest that's Jesus teaching followers that it's actually important to be judgemental, use discernment. It can actually be dangerous not to judge others, so the view that..
... Christians can't be judgemental, is wrong.

So anyway, here's the verse in question:

‘Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.
