Especially in the previous decade we saw many apocalyptic-themed fictional works
in Japan another trope becoming infamously popular is the #異世界 #isekai, "another world"
in China there's the #武侠 #武俠 #wuxia sort of #cultivation novel
these all center around a central motif, which is escapism and deep a desire to find meaning
#apocalyptic novels capture the crushed dreams of a generation that wants to feel heroic, nurtured on bygone yesteryear's hopes
#isekai, well, deals with escaping to another world, a chance for rebirth
#wuxia #cultivation reflects a dream to escape the endless pressures of a competitive society
it seems a new trend is emerging again with the even younger generation, focused on #folk culture, #authenticity, redefined #tradition, and #creativity
in music in particular there's a nostalgic sense, a sense of loss of innocence, reflecting the turbulence of modern society crushing upon us
#indie music is on the rise, a real contrast to the bubblegum #pop of the 1990s and 2000s
indie music feels less polished, less commercial, and more personal
