Is there a podcast with the design team from Aldi? I'd love to hear it. Do they have annual awards for the fake own brand that gets closest to the'real one' without infringing anything?
Do designers start off with with something low value with no single dominant brand like halloumi or something before working their way up to cornflakes?
Does the brief cover something like "should be mistaken for the real thing 70% of time at a glance from 3ft "
do they test them?
I wonder if it's depressing (having to mimic other designs) or just permanently hilarious.
I wonder how the relationships with the suppliers affects things, eg, if say, ambrosia actually supply the custard behind the scenes are they more or less worried about the copy cat nature? if they refuse to supply, do they push it as close as possible, or back off?
is there a structured design process of blocking colours, blurring everything and getting the overall shape of the existing thing, for the the baseline 'glance' impression, or is it all a bit looser than that?
Do the legal team have a good sense of humour, or do they walk around in a permanent state of anxiety?
Ha! if a new brand manager comes in, do they get the same issue of wanting to 'refresh the brand' even if the real brand remains the same.
and visa versa, if the real brand changes, do they have to update?
