The true brilliance of Bernardo Silva.

Ok so it’s finally time for my Bernardo Silva thread. I love this man he’s truly one of my favourite players at the club so underrated imo.

I’ll be doing more of these threads so make sure to follow so u don’t miss any in the next few weeks.

Bernardo Silva started out his career at his home club Benfica in Portugal. He only made one senior appearance for the first team spending most’ve his time in the B team. He spent only 2 years at the his boyhood club.

However in one he was loaned out to Monaco in summer 2014.

Bernardo made 32 league appearances with 7 in the UCL in his first season at Monaco scoring 9 goals and assisting 3 times in the league.

He clearly impressed at the club as this was enough to earn himself a permanent move to the club in the summer of 2015.

In his second season he was slightly less prolific but still chipped in with 7 goals and 1 assist in Ligue 1.

But it was Bernardos 3rd season with Monaco that earned him the plaudits. They won Ligue 1 breaking the PSG cycle. Bernardo was instrumental getting 22 G/A in all comps.

There was perhaps one game that really brought him the attention he deserved. Ofc vs City in the UCL round of 16. He made things very difficult for City over the two legs & of course City were knocked out. This was clearly a major factor in us signing Bernardo in summer 2018.

City completed the signing of Bernardo Silva in summer 2018 for a fee of around £43.5 million.

Bernardo was signed as an attacking winger but proved he could also be utilised in midfield.

Bernardo contributed to 9 goals and 11 assists in 53 apps as we won the PL and LC double.

After a very decent first season. Bernardo’s second in 18/19 was by far the best season in his career.

City lost key midfielder De Bruyne due to several injuries over the season. Leroy Sané also fell in and out of favour with Guardiola giving Bernardo more chances to start.

Bernardo was City’s best player imo, in our most successful season where we won the domestic Treble.

Bernardo won us many games with some key moments, memorably against United away.

Bernardo also won Etihad POTM for December 2018 & March 2019 as well as Etihad POTS for 18/19.

Bernardos numbers increased for City scoring 13 goals and getting 14 assists in 51 apps in all comps.

But Bernardo was not only a success for City that season. Bernardo helped Portugal win the 2019 UEFA Nations League and was voted player of the tournament in that competition.

The 19/20 season was a difficult one for City and Bernardo. He started well well with a hat trick against Watford but was wrongfully accused of being racist towards teammate & close friend Benjamin Mendy over a tweet that was meant as joke. This clearly knocked his confidence.

Even though Mendy stated he wasn’t offended by the tweet. Bernardo was still fined and crucified by the media. As a result his performances dipped and so did his numbers.

There were a few memorable performances such as his hat trick vs Watford & vs United in the LC Semi Final.

I’m buzzing to say that this season Bernardo rlly looks back to his best, he’s stepped up especially in recent weeks.

He’s of course a very talented player but it’s his incredible work rate that I love he never stops. Plus he’s scored a bangers this season such as vs Villa.

People often talk about who the successor to David Silva should be. Names like Foden and Gundogan are thrown into the mix. Whilst I love them both I think the second Silva is the obvious answer.

He’s got the qualities we need from him and he compliments KDB really well.

Bernardo is excellent in possession he protects the ball really well. He has such good dribbling in tight spaces and can take on multiple opponents at once. He has an excellent range of passing as well & his work rate off the ball is second to none. He’s a truly special player.

I tried to be more analytical of him rather than just storytelling this time.
