"In the extrovert, the conscious libido habitually flows toward the object, but there is an unconscious secret counter-action back toward the subject. -
In the case of the introvert, the opposite occurs: he feels as if an overwhelming object wants constantly to affect him." - Marie Louise Von Franz
It is natural for the introverted functions to have a bone to pick with the extroverted counterpart (Ti-Te, Fi-Fe, and so on). From the perspective of introversion, the external world is attacking it. That’s not how extroversion perceives the situation.
How do we mend the natural dissonance between the functions of the same kind but opposing orientations?
My best answer: focus on alchemizing the polarity of your own axis. These processes work in tandem. You’ll never be able to tip the scales — but you can at the very least allow your conscious mind to be open to witnessing the other.
When Ti works in tandem with Fe, it can better communicate itself to Te. When Fe works in tandem with Ti, it can better understand Fi.
When your ego has a grasp on both your external and internal universe, it is much easier to parallel your experience to how another function axis experiences life. Understanding the self breeds understanding of the other.
So going off of the initial quote, ask yourself: in what way does life flow toward you and away from you? Pay attention to the back and forth flow of energy.
