I’m a female Islamic scholar. I and many Muslim women lead prayers all the time but we don’t lead men in prayer. Imams lead prayers in a mosque. In Islam men and women don’t have to do the same things to have equal value & status. The equivalence with priests and rabbis is false. https://twitter.com/emmabarnett/status/1357424304770723842
As Muslims we should proudly state that men and women are different in Islam and we don’t see the so called ‘progress’ of the Protestant church as being a model for us.

This kind of cornering and ignorant line of questioning smacks of neo-Orientalism.
A point that we Muslims need to understand is that when we play identity politics and promote the narrative of “aren’t we progressive we have women leaders!” instead of celebrating that the best candidate got a particular role - we fall into the white feminist trap.
We fall into the trap of measuring our community’s progress in relation to the modern liberal standard - which is not our standard!
By dancing to the leftist/liberal tune - we do ourselves no favours. All that happens is we are asked: why are there no women Imams, why no lgbtq Imams, why no this or that.
The Qur’an tells us that people will never be happy with us until we follow their religions- a warning...
A warning to stop dancing to the tunes of other ideologies! We must set the narrative not be victims who pander to the narratives promoted by others.
By white feminist I really mean Western feminist.
