Just from a political/PR perspective, this was the dumbest possible move imaginable if LaPierre intends to remain in the control. You had the NYAG as your partisan foil and we've seen what happens to base's ability to reason in that scenario. But now the bad guys are the donors?
If you make the people who donate to advocate for a robust reading of 2nd Amendment the bad guys, who are your allies here? Which judge is going to be sympathetic to your cause?
