This week we have seen the Biden administration and the CDC back away from opening schools. Why?
Unions are using this as a bargaining tool to get federal stimulus money. Billions are on the table. And it’s not just for safety. Its about creating more jobs, more dues, more union power. https://epe.brightspotcdn.com/6a/45/774774d74f26a0ca4abe2883aca7/bidenk12funding.pdf
This plan includes $50 billion to help with physical distancing, which includes hiring more staff. More staff equals more union dollars. It provides $60 billion to stop staff layoffs and budget cuts.
If the unions go back to work like normal they lose their biggest bargaining chip. This is a very unpopular stance with voters in both parties. The Democratic Party knows this. That’s why mayors are coming out fighting their teacher unions, example Chicago.
But this is just a charade. They look tough for the voters, but the Biden administration and congress will bail them out by giving the unions what they want. Some will ask why would the Biden administration and Congress do this. There are three main reasons.
1. Money. “This cycle, individuals associated with the education field have reached a new spending high of almost $150 million through August. That’s $52 million more than the previous record in 2016 with plenty of time left for more donations before the election.”
2. The union votes. We are talking millions and millions of votes here. From k-12 to college.
3. And most important. No one creates more Democratic voters than public school teaching unions.
The union will be satisfied here. This isn’t about the kids, is it safe for teachers? It’s about bargaining. It’s about money. It’s about power. Never let a good crisis go to waste. @RMConservative @kerpen @justin_hart
