Since spring 2020, New School University has frozen the wages of part-time faculty and ceased retirement contributions into TIAA-CREF for the duration of the “pandemic recovery period”. We don’t know when this freeze will end.
In January 2021, the New School downgraded our healthcare plan from United Health Care to Aetna, charging us MORE for a plan that covers much LESS.
It is unacceptable that the employer is raising workers’ healthcare costs in the midst of an epidemic leaving workers vulnerable to illness and financial ruin due to these escalating costs.
Many part-time faculty are not earning wages at all due to mass course cancellations.
