this morning's journey, a thread.
I made pancakes for the kids and I at 7am. We ate them and they were good. A little fact bit about me: I put honey on my pancakes. So i did. and then I looked at the bottle of honey, and saw that it had a scripture quote on the label.

not a big deal by any means, it seemed weird. So i read the back of the label and it says, 'we thank god for allowing us to serve you and your family,' and I thought...huh. This guy is asking me to find out more, so I asked: Nature Nate, who are you?
So i googled Nature Nate, and found the nature nate website, where it says Nate was "one of the driving forces behind the global 'I Am Second' media campaign that highlights stories of hundreds of lives transformed through the grace of Jesus Christ."
If you're queer and in or around Christianity the words "I am second" will probably ping your spidey senses, because, You know who needs to put God first? Yea. Queers.
I looked into that group, and sure enough, they're doing the ex-gay work.

So, upset, I looked into @NatureNates even more.
And I found out that he's a member of C12, a group of Christian CEOs that, among other harmful efforts, submitted an amicus brief to SCOTUS on bostock in opposition to LGBTQ protections.
Then I thought: I see you Nate.

It turns out the well branded @NatureNates is part of the ex-gay, anti-trans movement.
And not just, like, casually. He's making money and giving it to the effort. He runs a biblical values company. He has converted several employees "through personal evangelistic efforts."

He's fighting for queer oppression. Right there, on the shelf at Target, and in my kitchen.
All of this, Nate and his world of the ex-gay movement has branded their movement in the language of love and inclusion. But it's just conversion therapy, updated.
Don't buy it.

ADDENDUM 1-
when I say that folks like @NatureNates are funding conversion therapy, folks often push back. They think of Exodus International or Love in Action, defunct psychological programs that all agree are harmful.

but a lot of folks don't know how conversion therapy transitioned into--ex-gay theology.
it's no longer, "queers go to hell!"
it's put Christ first, and overcome the struggles of your unwanted sexual behaviors. This is the I Am Second version of conversion therapy.

Now, it's not "same sex feelings are wrong!"
it's loving women/men is easy, loving Jesus is hard. But that's part of why it's good, or something. This is the Jackie Hill Perry school of being ex-gay.

Plus, there is plenty of old-fashioned psychological torture in these and other conversion therapy practices still in practice in churches and counselors offices all over the world.
They want it to sound different. But the outcomes are the same https://www.thetrevorproject.org/resources/preventing-suicide/facts-about-suicide/
