Even after this explicit, direct entry into communal politics, some INC supporters who are supposedly "liberal" & "secular" are trying to defend the party pointing out the supposed hypocrisy of the LDF/CPIM position on the Sabarimala issue.

LDF has always stood with the feminist movement to oppose the ban on women entry in the Sabarimala temple ever since the inception of the issue. The VS goverment (2006-2011) as well as the PV goverment (2016-2021) have submitted affidavits in the Supreme Court to that effect.
Further, when the verdict came, it abided by the Judiciary despite the massive opposition from Congress & BJP and stood firm even when ultraconservatives rioted and created a massive law & order issue. Leaders including CM declared that they won't give in even if they lose votes.
On Jan 1 2019, LDF govt in association with 176 social and political organizations in the state organised a Vanitha Mathil (Women's wall), a 620-km (world record) human chain across Kerala with 3-5 million women to symbolically assert their commitment to gender equality.
Later, entry of many women devotees were facilitated by the Govt despite the massive opposition and rioting. It is after this that in Nov 2019, the SC took up the review petitions and referred it to larger bench to relook at the 2018 verdict although they didn't stay it.
It is in such a circumstance that the CPIM advised the Govt to take a step back and maintain the status quo. They've always maintained that the govt will abide by the SC. So, if tomorrow the SC stays the 2018 ruling, the Govt will abide by that too despite their disagreement.
Now in what universe is this remotely comparable to the INC stand?
INC rejected their national leadership's position and backed the conservatives in Kerala. They ignored the violent rioting and used the situation to their electoral advantage with no shame, along with BJP.

Now they have proposed a law to imprison women who break the tradition up to 2 years since elections are coming up and they have nothing else to fight with.
It's ridiculous and grossly disingenuous to bring up a fake story about "LDF u-turn" as if it makes any sense whatsoever.
