What day is it ?
Oh, Sunday.
Time to tell a story .
About the need for SPS, (Sanitary and phyto sanitary Controls )
1/
Abattoirs have a "reject bin". Since BSE you can't cut a spine. The carcass is now without value and must be burned. It happens. Cutters make mistakes.
2/
Poultry processors also make mistakes.
They also have a "for incineration " bin.
3/
Now. In the real world we live in. Not everyone is honest. That might come as a great shock.
We have seen sheep with Scrapy butchered and fed to cattle.
4/
So, we accept that people start the day being honest and end the day being criminally negligent and worse.
It is all about money.
5/
So, last week, in a port in Northern Ireland, a groupage load ( many palettes from many suppliers) was found to contain meat products that had previously been ticketed as "for destruction-not for foodchain".
6/
Why did it end up in N.I. ?
because it could not travel to Calais or Dunkerque or Rotterdam.
It was sent from GB to NI for repackage.
7/
I am sure nobody in NI wants that in their meal nor in their kids lunch.
I am sure nobody in GB wants it either.
I am sure nobody in any EU country wants it either.
8/
Unscrupulous people take advantage of the DUP/UDA threats to border staff and seize an opportunity.
Thankfully this was stopped this time.
9/
SO. Stop with the "we don't need checks".
We ALL need them.
It is OUR health.
Why is there SPS checks ?
because there are nasty people out to make a quick few quid.
