i'm not in dsa, but know several ppl who are. it is sad to watch its black members experience racism w/in an org that purports to uphold socialism. the only way to move forward is to get over whiteness. its purchase for some holds back progress for all. 1/?
being black on the left can be incredibly isolating as so many black orgs are plagued by neoliberalism whereas many broader left orgs are plagued by racism. not to mention sexism, homophobia, & xenophobia in both sets of spaces that serve as impediments to making real gains 2/?
there absolutely must be greater recognition of the ways these prejudices severely limit the potential for organizational power & sustained growth. racism ultimately is egoism expressed through discrimination & exclusion, & it has no place on the left.
