#LongThread This issue is really a matter of what we want in life, priorities and how to manage external factors. I’ll share a story briefly to encourage those that are yet to understand why young women like us need to desire to learn more, be open to better opportunities and.. https://twitter.com/prof_affidavit/status/1358321381985951744
don’t remain in our comfort zones.
#Discovery
Right from my undergraduate, I got to know about the kinda career I wanted after having my academic mentor convince me on how I can maximise my potentials in the food and agricultural sector.
...I knew that the kind of career I wanted was that, if I end up in the classroom, I will give my students the knowledge they need in school with much experience. (I really have learnt a lot since I came here).
#Discovery&Decision At that point I realised an international masters will be great for me. So I started searching for scholarship opportunities that I could apply to. I realised that I needed to make a certain grade to also standout when I start applying (Your GP still matters)
#Decision& #Advise for female undergraduate)
I was below 4.00 and for me to really get more chances I needed to step up to 4.00+. What I did was to calculate my GP then at Hilltop UNN in my room, the kind of grades I will want to make to get at least 4.0 upon graduation.
#PossibleHurdles
Guess what, the solution was to make all A’s in that final years. So I began to work towards it. I read, prayed & worked hard just to graduate with something good. At the end I made A’s and just two B’s in the whole final year and I hit 4.0 on the dot.
At that point in my life, can I tell us that my mind wasn’t even to Jakpa. I just needed to improve my knowledge so that I can get into the Academia well prepared&with a better knowledge be able to Work with some national and international organisations like @FAO @IFAD @IFPRI ...
@NafdacAgency and maybe one day be appointed by a good president as a Minister of Agriculture in NIGERIA ✅.
#PlayingAgoodCard
I knew what I wanted and I was focused even when I was still putting eye in man. It’s normal, At least to know whether we go fit marry 😂. Since the society expects us to marry immediately after graduation
Planning begins
I read about chevening towards the end of my final year and I saw they required work experience. I came back home in August 2016 and I decided to go find myself a teaching Job to start making up my work experience profile and test my teaching skill small...
...An opportunity i used to make a lot of impact in that Sec School back home. I remember calculating how to acquire 2800 hrs of work experience starting from September, 2016 in the staff room, just to be able to apply for @CheveningFCDO Kai (first scholarship I knew about).
Shift of priority
From that period my reason for data subscription SHIFTEd from wanting to get a Hi from a cute guy TO wanting to say Hi to people who already gotten scholarships and acquiring international experience in their fields of study...
From my search, i got to know about commonwealth and many other scholarships for Nigerians

Transition and finding link minds.

From teaching in secondary school, my NYSC posting came and I traveled to Ogun state. I continued even more and got in contact with Ezinne Anizoba
... @AaronAkpuPhilip wife and a friend to my sister who is a commonwealth alumna. She encouraged me and offered to mentor me. So sweet a lady. Aaron top your bride price
Career, man, management
I was still putting eye in man, but people that i was focused more on career than man. So the BF I heard then because of how I use to apply for scholarships started calling me MY INTERNATIONAL BABY. Goals weren’t aligning anymore, so We went out ways.
(Rejections and determination)
Still in 2017, I started receiving a lot of rejections. Ijeuwa. The next BF also was of great help, he didn’t have choice he just had to start proofreading essays 🤣, because that was the only place you could show me love. Of course he is smart and
intelligent. He supported me but few things happed. #WeMove

Then few weeks after in the BEAUTIFUL 2020 I got my Scholarship letters from Erasmus Mundus in April and Chevening in July. It was indeed a journey right?I hope we have learnt some things from from this story so far...
Balanced focus
I was not more focused on getting married than getting a scholarship abroad. I was focused on living my dream and still have a family in the future (because I didn’t know which one that will come first).
There were pressures like ‘it’s time to marry’ ‘you are of age’ , but one thing that helped me was that I really needed to make impact and live my dream in the future even with my family and what I did was just to focus on what i could handle & left the one I can’t control
Finally I got to Europe in September, and in October when I was trying to adapt to the new environment, my EX BF said he couldn’t continue with our long distant relationship. Omo! Gbasgbos for Woman who travel to obodo oyibo. This brings me to what I want to say...
I know if I share this with some ladies who really are desperate for marriage more than any other achievement in life, they won’t even want to apply for scholarship or seek opportunities even in Nigeria to upgrade their knowledge, so they can marry and have their families.
That’s why I said it depends on what people actually want. U CAN’T push any adult to do something they’re not willing to do. If she wants, she can go for it and should be ready to push, search for information and face a lot of challenges on the way. We are here to help you too
I know a Lady that while in this journey she got married to a nice guy and in January 2012 she traveled to Uk for her commonwealth scholarship. The husband and two babies are in Nigeria; she will return with this good experience and knowledge that we are talking about.
Oh girl C’mon you need this. I’m not a good writer but I shared this long thread for any lady Don’t be reluctant. Step up your goals and priorities. It matters for the future. U can even save money and start your masters in Nigeria, I did that too
I haven’t gotten anywhere yet, but I will get to live my dreams someday and flaunt my🧔🏽man. Me too I like man 🤣 By the way Scholarship is sweet incase you don’t know😜 @AaronAkpuPhilip 2020.
Take this bold step and make balanced life goals.
