Ok sports fans, this is the 1st installment on my journey to being coronated as Mr. Myrtle Beach golf by @Golfer_Jake_78. So enjoy the ride and I hope to fulfill all of your Myrtle Beach golf dreams! Yesterday’s round was at Myrtlewood Golf Club, the Palmetto course...(1)
This has been the WORST winter in my 8 year Myrtle Beach in terms of weather. On this cool, gray, damp day we felt ALOT closer than 650 miles from NY. It was about 49 degrees with a slight breeze at our 11:04 tee time. For those readers who is unfamiliar with MB golf (2)
The ball doesn’t carry as far at sea level, some say a full club shorter than other places. In 49 and damp degrees I estimate it goes 10-15 yards shorter than on nicer days. And with very little roll due to mostly saturated fairways, Palmetto played pretty long. (3)
At this point, I believe a tip of that hat is due to every superintendent at every course in this area. These courses are very playable even when faced with the cold and extremely rainy season that we’ve had this year.
Palmetto was in great shape yesterday with only 4 holes playing Cart Path only. The greens were pretty quick and in great shape...Myrtlewood ,in general, plays a tremendous amount of rounds annually and this course was in great shape. Playing from@the whites it is 6,516 yards(4)
And has a handicap of 71.4 and rating of 130. It’s a good, fun course with plays along Highway 17 bypass and is mostly house lines. My MB gold rating of this course in a solid 7. I am attaching a pic from the 18th tee box which is their “signature” hole by reputation if not (5)
