So how did Celtic do against Motherwell at the weekend. Some positives but a performance rife with errors seen in previous games. Motherwell narrow and didn't engage in first half (no first half shot), they'll regret that

First Some Positives

Our reliance on Edouard for output continued as he had another good game posting 0.61xG. He improved on Kilmarnock game where he only completed 2/16 dribbles getting 4/5 completed against Motherwell. He also had 3 of his 4 shots from inside the box.

Turnbull as well very productive, with 0.17xG & 0.45xA. However the poor coaching from Neil Lennon and staff starting to become very apparent, with persistent long shots. This needs coached out of his game when the new manager comes in.

Now for the Negatives, starting with the goal

First I'll give an example of how midfield and defence should be set up to deal with the events that led to the goal.

2v2 at the touchline, with no large gap inside as the space is filled by Soro and Turnbull.

The goal part 1

The first Picture should be very obvious in whats wrong. 3v2 press and Brown deep giving Campbell all the space in the world. 2nd pic, Campbell gets the ball and moves towards the box, still no pressure.

The goal part 2

Brown finally engages, gets nowhere near Campbell as he cuts inside to his favoured foot. Campbell shoots after carrying the ball 20 yards under no pressure (lots of players around him surprised no meme has been made). Bain a bit off his line for no reason

Parallels Pt1, Celtic keep making the same mistakes

Big hole in the pitch again which Campbell easily exploits. Laxalt for whatever reason decides to step out of his defensive line to engage, even though hes marking someone(my god). Campbell just passes it past him.

Parallels Pt1 continued
This scenario might look familiar because of course it is. This pressuring when not necessary has been prevelant in Brown Duffy and Laxalts game all season. Here is Duffy causing the 1st St mirren goal a few weeks back.

Parallels part 2

I thought this error was down to DM being in the wide full back position, even so I cant figure out why we move across so much. We are just making giant gaps in our box. Starting to have some issues with Welsh positionally. Seems too wide alot of the time

Laxalt the villain or the hero Pt1?

Laxalt was deemed a hero for his goal line clearance but was the chance his fault? Yes it was. 1st pic in the box from left to right is Welsh, Laxalt (at CB for some reason) Ajer (the real hero) & mcgregor trying tocovering Laxalt gap

Laxalt the villain or the hero Pt2?

Due to everyone being out of position we can also see if the ball dropped Motherwell had 2 free men on the edge of the box in the 93rd Minute. Bain a non presence again, moves into no mans land. Mcgregor cant fill the gap in time.

Laxalt the villain or the hero Pt3?

Ajer the only one in position manages to just put off the 2 attacking players and Laxalt well out position clears off the line. Painfully poor all round.

Id like to be positive after a win as Celtic had some good on show, but we are chronically making the same errors over an over again in defence. My assumption is the team and coaches don't watch games back and try to fix the errors.
