1Day Sooner is thrilled to announce our campaign for National Vaccine Day: a one-time federal holiday to promote vaccine education and honor frontline workers.

A new op-ed by Dr. Stanley Plotkin, Dr. Norman Baylor, and Keona Wynne makes the case: 🧵 https://www.statnews.com/2021/02/07/the-u-s-needs-a-national-vaccine-day/
National Vaccine Day would rally Americans around the common goal of vaccination to stamp out the virus. By connecting public health to joyful and exciting events, the day would give a social nudge to vaccinate beforehand and create a positive collective memory of vaccination.
We’ve put together an amazing steering committee in support of National Vaccine Day with a diverse group of scientists, public health officials, and celebrities⬇️
Dr. Stanley Plotkin, creator of the rubella vaccine: “National Vaccine Day would be an opportunity to honor and express our deepest gratitude to health care workers and scientists who have worked tirelessly over the last year to protect us from the virus."
Dr. Norman Baylor, Former Director of the Office of Vaccine Research and Review @US_FDA: “A one-time federal holiday to recognize and promote vaccination would help disseminate the message that safe and effective vaccines save lives.”
Keona Wynne, PhD student @HarvardChanSPH: “National Vaccine Day would serve as the light at the end of the tunnel, simultaneously creating a national benchmark to complete widespread vaccination campaigns and a day-of opportunity for science education and social restoration.”
Mike Schur ( @KenTremendous), co-creator of @parksandrec & @nbcthegoodplace: “Right now there may be no greater way for the government to directly help its people than the establishment of a day dedicated to science and disease eradication.”
Dr. Richard Carmona ( @DrRichCarmona), 17th Surgeon General of the United States: “Beyond saving lives by promoting COVID-19 vaccination, National Vaccine Day is a chance for our nation to come together after a long and difficult year.”
Angie Rasmussen ( @angie_rasmussen), affiliate @georgetown_ghss: “National Vaccine Day can help restore America’s standing in the global health community.”
Arthur Caplan ( @arthurcaplan), Professor of Bioethics at @nyulangone: “A federal holiday to promote vaccination would greatly help overcome vaccine hesitancy and distrust at a crucial time in our battle against COVID-19.”
Ian Haydon ( @ianhaydon) Sci Comm Manager @UWproteindesign: “National Vaccine Day gives us all an opportunity to recognize the good that can still happen in this world — and to celebrate it.”
Other Steering Commitee members include @SeemaKShah, @Rouphael_N, @ProfYolonda, @drjeromekim1, and Damon Lindelof.

@POTUS could enact National Vaccine Day by executive order, and we hope he will!
