A thread of the most controversial VAR decisions which have cost teams so badly this season:
Watkins vs West Ham- Clearly made to be offside by Ogbonna fouling him, has to be a penalty if goal isn’t given. FT West Ham 2-1 Aston Villa
Maupay vs Manchester United - You can maybe argue it’s a penalty but the referee has blown the actual full time whistle and brought the players back on the pitch for Fernandes to score the winner in the 99th minute😭 FT Brighton 2-3 Manchester United
Virgil Van Dijk vs Everton- One of the worst in my opinion. Onside and fouled horrifically by Pickford, he wasn’t even punished for taking their star man out for the season. FT Everton 2-2 Liverpool
Joel Ward vs Everton- Not really sure where else ward can put his arms here😭 VAR has been brought in to dismiss that as a penalty not come back and give it. FT Crystal Palace 1-2 Everton
One of the weirdest VAR decisions I’ve ever seen. Walker-Peters pretty obviously fouled outside the box, no clear evidence suggesting it’s in the box so why is it a penalty? FT Brighton 1-2 Southampton
Mane vs Everton- 2 in the same game you say?? Not sure how this ones offside but go off lads. FT Everton 2-2 Liverpool
Quality save by Matty Cash this. In all seriousness what is the handball rule anymore? I genuinely thought they were looking at it being a red card on VAR let alone a penalty😂 FT Southampton 0-1 Aston Villa
About an inch of his sleeve is offside. If Ings scores with that sleeve it’s disallowed for handball btw. Decent consistency that! FT Southampton 0-1 Aston Villa
This one maybe not result wise has cost West Ham but losing their best player. Dont know what else to expect when Mike Dean is in charge. He loves to be centre of attention and couldn’t go a whole game without it. MITROVIC LITERALLY TELLS HIM ITS NO FOUL. FT Fulham 0-0 West Ham
This one wasn’t even looked at for VAR, technically not a VAR decision but why wasn’t it? Martinez quite clearly handling Laca in the box, but Waltons excuse is that VAR isn’t there to referee games. If that’s not clear and obvious then what is? FT Aston Villa 1-0 Arsenal
ANOTHER CLEAR AND OBVIOUS MISTAKE NOT RULED OUT. How is this a red card man😭 how’s is even a penalty? FT Wolves 2-1 Arsenal
Some stats lmao

Let’s be real, VAR isn’t the problem. It’s the officials, but until we get officials with a better understanding and clear guidelines on what VAR can or cannot do, it will continue to take the enjoyment out the game.
The worst thing is, I’ve missed so many more decision not given but I don’t have the time to go through all of them
