The cool, technical & neutral language of @mbmpolicy doesn’t quite hide the monumental cock up @HumzaYousaf & co. made of the legislative process last week in order to shaft Women. It’s actually quite incredible that more isn’t made in the press of this. https://twitter.com/mbmpolicy/status/1358107901844455426
I get the process of turning policy into law can be dead boring, but the deviation in both parliamentary process and substantive content alone, warrant careful scrutiny & pose questions ,not only for Scotland’s Women in how they are regarded, but also Scottish Democracy itself.
@mbmpolicy note the Govt often brings forward its own amendments @Stage 2, to deal with recommendations made by Committee & follow up promises it has made in Stage 1 debate, “fix technical points or occasionally include new material”, within limits of a Bill’s general scope.
Can we please say out loud once more for those at the back? 🗣The Scottish Government is in effect, introducing a BLASPHEMY LAW to protect a subsection of psychologically disturbed males with fragile egos intent on subsuming Women in a definition that serves male interests ONLY.
So scared are these lily livered cowards on the Justice Committee of Scotland of Transactivists, they can’t even discuss the substantive content of a bill at Committee Stage as to what constitutes hate speech 4 TRA’s & they don’t think it will have a #chillingeffect on Women??!
@mbmpolicy say it in much nicer words than me, but this is fucking joke. Yet again. Every facet of being a Woman is under attack in Scotland. And I’m just wondering... Has Scotland always hated Women, or is this a Nippy thing & Women are just collateral damage?
“If politicians are worried about being labelled transphobic, or even just hurtful, simply for arguing in the Parliament that it should not be criminal in itself to state that sex is immutable or to make the other statements in the Kerr amendment...” https://murrayblackburnmackenzie.org/2021/02/01/debate-or-no-debate/
“... it is hard to see how those outside the Parliament can be confident in future that the law will have their back, if they wish to.”
@mbmpolicy have “set out forty real-world examples that demonstrate how low the threshold for behaviour or communications considered to be abusive already is.” aka potentially criminalise perfectly normal conduct under proposed Bill.
