I’ve spent most of my weekend so far reading about personal finance. Every time I end up here (which I do often as I learn more) I think, “why is my knowledge on finance so shit?” If I could go back in time, I would start learning earlier. Because I knew nothing about money.
I started my first job as a barista when I was 18 then as a sales advisor at various retail stores. There was one point where I worked at several stores at once (shift in the morning then evening)

The money I earned there mostly went to buying stuff from the store I worked. 🤦🏻‍♀️
Mostly because I had some great discounts. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I hardly thought about saving or investing or anything like that because I lived at home and I still had that mindset that I lived for free so 🤷🏻‍♀️ It was great while it lasted but when I moved out, I struggled with budgets.
Over time, I’ve got a LOT better. Especially over 2020, I’m happy to be bringing over some really great money habits.

But I also feel a sense of regret knowing that I was earning quite a bit of money a few years ago (whilst living at home) but had a bad overspending habit.
Some things I’m proud of recently:

✨ Negotiated my phone bill down by a lot (telecoms ffs 🥲)
✨ Inspired by @akashandmoney, cut my monthly subscriptions
✨ Got into an investing habit (obsessed rn 😂)
✨ Cut down some expenses
✨ Earned ££ outside of 9-5 and invested
Money is still awkward to talk about, but I’m glad to see that slowly the world is changing and that financial education is within reach.

You just need dedicated time and energy to learn AND to face some uncomfortable truths on where your money is going (*cough* sports bras 🥲)
Another thing I’ve been thinking about recently is around, “ok, if I have all this money what do I do with it?” I read @JLCollinsNH’s book recently and fell in love with the concept of “fuck you money” My main financial goal is to be in the position of “fuck you” 😆
