THREAD: 1/ There are tens of thousands of protesters on the streets of Yangon today, but peaceful demonstrations against the February 1 military coup are also taking place in several other cities across Myanmar. #WhatsHappeningInMyanmar
2/ Another, larger demonstration took place in Magway this morning following yesterday's march. It started at 8am near Kan Thar Lake and ended back at the lake at about 10:30am. Police watched on but took no action. More young people took part today.
3/ Protests also continued in Meiktila in Mandalay Region, a town with a strong military presence and Union Solidarity and Development Party support. Today around 1,500 people, 30 cars and 500 motorbikes took part.
4/ Some high-profile activists in Meiktila have gone into hiding, fearing arrest following the protests. However, police made no attempt to stop the demonstrators and we have not heard of any arrests.
5/ In Myeik, Tanintharyi Region, around 1,500 people staged a protest from 7am to 9am. More than 1,000 people, mostly migrant workers, protested at the jade mining town of Hpakant in Kachin State. Smaller demonstrations took place in Shwebo and Sagaing this morning.
