Don't DM people with this kind of shit. This behavior is toxic and abusive. Not everyone's screen name is a reference to your fandom, even if they're in that fandom. Some people's screen names are just their names. Crazy idea, I know.
Like, I agree that people shipping WoLs with Alphinaud can be problematic—unless the player and their character are both minors, it's not good at all. But going out of your way to target complete and utter strangers because you think they might-maybe be into a problematic thing?
That's not a good look, kid.
Do I seriously need to clarify that harassing people even if they’re into the problematic thing is wrong too? Just because I stated my stance on The Thing it doesn’t automatically imply I would’ve supported the harassment. When I come across content I don’t like I keep scrolling.
If you like a thing that I don’t like, I’m scrolling past. On Twitter I might hit mute. If that something I don’t like happens to be bad enough, like people supporting Trumpisms, I hit the block button. The choice to not engage with the thing is an active choice.
What I was specifically mad at here was someone going out of their way to make an assumption and come out swinging unprovoked at a stranger. I never made a statement to condone harassment of any kind. I made a statement to illustrate just how wrong their assumption was.
Assuming that everyone who would read it would be from my relatively small circle and know my general stance on harassment (ie: don’t bloody do it) was an assumption I should not have made.
