A thread on why a Wentz and a 2nd for Foles, another offensive player, and the 20th pick gives me the most optimism for the Bears in 2021 and more importantly, the foreseeable future.

*All my feeling change if that’s not the deal*
Let’s be honest no one should ever be excited about acquiring the 2020 version of Carson Wentz, but let’s look at the situation. He was behind an offensive line who allowed 50 sacks on Wentz and 13 on Hurts. Weapons were minimal. Doug Pederson may be more fraudulent than Nagy.
The Eagles have been garbage since Frank Reich left the building. There’s been tension between Pederson and Wentz for some time and many have accused Pederson of almost sabotaging Wentz with playcalling down the stretch. How true is that?
I’m not sure, but I wouldn’t put it past a guy who benched Jalen Hurts in a winnable game. Going into the 2020 season Wentz was, at minimum, seen as a franchise quarterback. 2020 turned south for Wentz quickly but I don’t believe he stays down for long.
Giving him another opportunity in a similar offense with a familiar face, in John DeFilippo, could help him have a bounce back year. In 2019 Wentz had a stretch of elite level QB play that won them games and landed them in the playoffs, albeit without a great record.
At that time the Eagles didn’t have many weapons and Wentz elevated the level of play of everyone on the offense. He’s shown to be a quarterback that will “win you games,” as critics like to say when describing elite qb talent.
2019 ended with an injury and I can understand some of the durability issues but remember Wentz stayed healthy after 50 sacks last year.
The Bears will need to invest heavily in their offensive line for this to work. Wentz has shown to make the best of a bad situation in terms of weapons but not in terms of breakdowns in protection.
I’d suggest cutting Leno/Massie and investing in a premier Tackle in FA and extending Ifedi for as cheap as possible. Down the stretch the interior looked solid and with James Daniels back and a bonafide anchor at LT you could be cooking with gas.
You’d hope that Mooney doesn’t get traded in this deal so I’m going with the assumption it’s Miller. Then that extra second round pick can come in handy and Nagy will finally be forced to put Ridley on the field. Does it sound like an elite WR core?
No, but we’ve seen players like A.J. Brown, Chase Claypool, and Debo Samuel slide in recent drafts and the 2020 WR class looks to be another deep one. Will there be an Allen Robinson, probably not but if the Bears can hit on a second or late round receiver, they can manage.
The biggest issue with any quarterback coming into Chicago will be Matt Nagy. This is why this move would give me so much relief for the future.
1st, if all goes horribly, which many anticipate it will, the next regime has an opportunity to reload instead of tearing it down to the studs. The Bears would lose zero draft capitol in 2022 and be a much more desirable job opening.
Think about how much worse it could be. I don’t like the Watson idea strictly because of the asking price, but what if Houston doesn’t trade him? Then you have a more desperate GM/HC in a lame duck situation sitting at 20 in the draft with GM’s waiting to sink their fangs in.
The last thing Bears fans need is to trade up for another quarterback that Nagy can’t develop and sit in another 5 years of purgatory, watching an elite defense waste away. That’s another thing. The trade allows to keep the defensive unit in tact.
This trade would essentially be Nagy’s last chance at showing he can run an offense. It would be the 2 projected starting quarterback brought in under Nagy’s watch who’s shown to be productive in a similar system. There would be no more excuses.
If it works out, great. If it doesn’t I don’t think anyone would be sad to see Nagy go. So when I break down the idea of this specific trade the Pro’s heavily outweigh the con’s.
Pro’s:
Nagy has no more excuses.
Possibly get a rejuvenated Wentz.
Don’t destroy future draft capitol.
Never have to see Nick Foles again.
Could be the final nail in this regimes coffin.

Con: Wentz is broken and we endure another bad qb. Then again it gets everyone fired.
It seems like giving away a first for Wentz is a lot after a down year, but really break down this trade. A 4th round pick for Foles was overpaying and he’s worth nothing at this point. Most people want Miller off the team anyway(not me) and it’s a 20 for 37 swap.
In my opinion the Bears just made a fantasy football style trade. They packaged up a flex option(20th pick) and two bench players you wanted to drop (Miller/Foles), and possibly get back a starting qb, and a possible flex rotation player (37th pick).
I don’t care how you wanna spin it, the Bears would be fleecing the Eagles if Wentz plays anywhere near what he’s capable of. If he doesn’t everyone is fired and the Bears probably have a high draft pick in 2022 with a different regime making decisions.
In my opinion this is a a no lose situation. W’s all around. #BearDown #Bears #DaBears
