Seeing a lot of blaming the loss solely on Koskinen tonight. He was not good and was outplayed by Markstrom, but most of the GA were symptoms of larger defensive issues.

Thread breaking down each goal
Goal 1: 100% on Koskinen. Nurse does a decent job defending the rush, with the release coming from the top of the circle. Koskinen loses his angle, which is compounded by a track where he pulls off the puck, reaching to make the save far side instead of cutting it off in front
Goal 2: On the defense. Bouchard goes the long way around the net, leaving Mangiapane a clear path to the net. He can walk to the front to stuff it short side, or pass it to Lucic, leaving 19 in a tough spot. The play starts with Russell checking Lucic in the corner cont.
but 4 loses his man net front. Once the pass gets through, it's an extremely difficult save. The one mistake 19 makes is letting the pass go through the crease. Ideally, the heel of the stick lines up with the top of the pad to create a seal but the pass goes b/w the stick & pad
Goal 3: Split blame. The 2-1 starts with Barrie pinching to catch a puck that's 10ft over his head. Nurse plays the initial 2-1 well and Koskinen is in a good spot until Backlund pulls and shoots against his body. Koskinen follows the pull✅but opens a hole under his blocker❌
The puck finds that hole, which leads to the rebound that Backlund taps in. I'm not a huge fan of the dman leaving his feet, because it prevents Nurse from re-engaging in the puck battle on the rebound but that's how the Oilers are coached
Goal 4: 100% on Koskinen. He actually does a good job of getting over to the one-timer, but he never fully set his feet. This forces his weight backwards as he goes down, opening up the hole under his arm
Goal 5: On Nurse & Barrie. Play starts with a Nurse pass to Barrie, after which Nurse heads deep into the zone. Then Barrie tries to beat Gaudreau deep into the zone before turning the puck over with a blind backhand to the middle. The rush back starts as a 3-1 with McDavid back
Nurse and Barrie end up covering their guys, but because McDavid had to respect the odd man rush, Gaudreau gets a partial break and is able to make a perfect shot. Koskinen might be a little deep, but has to respect the pass off the initial 3-1 read
Goal 6: On Russell/Draisaitl. On the zone entry, Bouchard is marking Monahan, Russell on Gaudreau and Drai on Bennett. When the puck goes behind the net, both 29 & 4 head to Gaudreau (29 is able to finish a check/4 caught in no man's land)
By the time either can recover, Gaudreau has made a nice play and the puck's in the back of the net. No chance for Koskinen
