it is VERY common for systems to have specific alters with eating disorders. as most of y'all know eating disorders are NOT just about weight and can often be a coping mechanism. it is common for protectors to adopt unhealthy coping mechanisms such as eds or self-harm.

the reason they pick up these habits is actually as a form of self-inflicted abuse. the idea is basically "no one can hurt me if im the one hurting me."
it is also not unheard of for the host to pick these coping mechanisms themselves- whether learned from a protector,

encouraged by a persecutor, or developed on its own. the host generally has a lot of trauma, and trauma can be one of the causes of eating disorders.

we are on venttwt. a place that we all come to talk about our very own inner demons. things that are frowned upon and not talked about openly in most spaces. apart from my OSDD ive personally used this space to talk about my ed, my sh, my psychosis and paranoia, among

other mental health issues i struggle with. being that this space is so open when it comes to mental health, many feel able to talk freely about their struggles. dissociative disorders are incredibly demonized by the media, not taken seriously by many people, and are rather

hush hush. whether or not mental health professionals even take them seriously, systems can have a hard time feeling comfortable bringing these things up with their therapists. and when they do there is usually a long wait (if any) to diagnosis. there are also many who are

unable to see mental health professionals. we all know this because many of the people here are in that exact situation.
so people self-diagnose (which is the first step to an official diagnosis in many mental health conditions) and they come to their free online therapist

DID/OSDD is far more normalized and accepted on mhtwt than it is in many other online communities ive taken part of. while there /are/ forums and pages on reddit that celebrate and embrace multiplicity, there is none that ive experienced that is quite as interpersonal

so as far as i can tell, it is no wonder there are so many open systems on venttwt. this is a place where many people feel more comfortable talking about themselves and opening up about mental health. this is a place where the often demonized and feared DID/OSDD

is accepted. this is a place where people with unhealthy coping mechanisms have congregated and shared their experiences with each other. this is a place where myself and a number of other systems have chosen to talk about their experiences and allowed their alters some

freedom to explore themselves.
so if it seems like there's a "suspicious" number of systems on shedtwt- most ESPECIALLY if you're a singlet... maybe learn to keep your nose in your own business and stop accusing and/or implying that people are faking when all you know

about them is the information THEY choose to share online. you DON'T know them, and you DON'T know their experiences. learn to let people be mentally ill in peace. thank you.
