Sin has always existed, & it snowballs when a society accepts a particular sin as normal, over time, through a series of compromises. But some are worse than others.

For instance, look back 100 yrs & tell me which of our horrible sins would've become acceptable if nobody lied.

Liars are the WORST.

Think about the implications of this. The sins that used to be secret became public & tolerated, then accepted, now celebrated. Because of LIES. Lies that robbed humanity of necessary shame & guilt. Proportional shame & guilt, tempered by repentance, are necessary for salvation.

These negative states of the soul/mind should always be temporary, to be sure, bc we're all redeemed by the final bloody sacrifice of the cross, & we can restore our souls to their redemptive state thru perfect contrition and/or confession as many times as necessary.

But ...

Those who are so consumed by pride as to think it is unnecessary not only ignore the Words of their God in favor of their pride (or horribly misinformed preacher) ignore completely that which even the Ninevites took seriously.

We are fallen, & we owe our King tribute.

I am about to begin 40 days of fasting in penance. I'll pray for the world, sure. But I'd be lying if I said I was going to focus on that more than you &, frankly, me.

I'll be doing penance for not living up to my calling, & asking His Majesty to grant me the grace to do so.

Regardless of how old you are, the following is true: since Christ, there's never been a more important time to shun human society, detach from your desires, deprive yourself, & seek purity.
