And that's a problem because come election time, they are the ones demanding that we on the Left vote for their party but many of them don't know what their party actually does.

The good news is that's easy to change, here are two tutorials that can help you change that: 2-5

This is a very useful site, see how your party or MP has voted on issues you care about (and how they align politically),check out the committee reports while you're there also. 3-5
2) How to search on Open Parliament.

Very user-friendly interface that can help you search the transcripts very quickly to find out what was said, who really proposed what idea first etc. 4-5
This is just a starting point. But it's a good foundation. If you want more reputable, Federal resources to learn about policy or some for Ontario, feel free to ask.
