Dear @meenaharris , Your claim of being Hindu is false and irreligious. According to Agama, Smritis and Shastras you have to have a caste to be a Hindu. Your grand father, father and husband all are black. Like MLK, you are “untouchable.” Don’t interfere in our internal matters.
Caste is endogenous & hereditary transmitted. You just can’t acquire a caste. You born in it. It’s based on patriarchal linage. We are not interested in your grand mother’s caste. That’s inconsequential. As we can’t place you in any caste groups, hence you are not Hindu. Period.
Castelessness or caste blindness claimed by Indian diaspora, most of them are from upper castes, that “I don’t believe in caste” is a privilege. Having encashed their social & cultural capital into educational & other attainments; now conveniently saying that caste is past.
What is Hinduism without caste. Indians have exported caste to the US. Prophecy of Dr Ambedkar is coming true. “Hindus...are the sick men of India, and that their sickness is causing danger to the health and happiness of others...”
Martin Luther King Jr. was called “untouchable” in India. Indians love to see everything through the prism of caste. One can read that in his autobiography. Chapter- 13. “Yes, I am an untouchable, and every Negro in the United States of America is an untouchable."
