The weekly #MarketingMeetup with @West_Syed & @ccmarce_writes was very eye-opening today!

Here's my highlight reel (please add on if you have any questions or had any takeaways that impacted you). ✨
@TheCoolestCool shared a bit about his Canadian roots 🇨🇦 & how he went on to build his own agency.

Below are my fav 3 tips. 👇
1) The topic this week was about defining your career path away from the corporate ladder. Ross talked about how he started freelancing by taking on side projects.

This helps you build a portfolio (which is a huge component of career momentum IMO).
2) Every person you connect with is an opportunity. Speaking at events is business development on steroids.

(...maybe that's why we should all hang out on CH?)
3) Start creating content about things you're passionate about. This will show people how you approach problems.
@kushaanshah brought up TikTok.

Here was my takeaway:

Marketers need to be obsessed with culture. If you’re not paying attention you’re missing out on your cohort of people who might be buying from you in a few years.
@HollyShannon_ has some virtual conference hookups if you're interested in learning more about marketing later this year.

@ccmarce_writes asked if marketers need to go generalist or specialist?

A: Depends on where you’re at in your career. If you’re a VP then becoming general is okay. If you’re a junior, having specialties is usually an advantage.
@jessicamalnik wanted to know what kind of books would be good for marketing soft skills. Here’s what came up:

1) Presentation Zen
2) How Will You Measure Your Life? (Clayton M Christensen, James Allworth, et al.)
3) Principles (Ray Dalio)
... @TheCoolestCool I think there was also a book about tennis, but I missed the title 🙈
Final advice:

Try new things. Don’t play it safe. It takes a bit of risk. If you can experiment in your career it will completely change your trajectory.
