Parasocial hatred and parasocial love are two sides of the same coin of having a one sided emotional connection to someone. Often the false love turns into real hate out of a desire to get that person to notice you, finally.
âI hate creator xâ I mean yeah you probably do by now but you also probably justified it after the fact with either made up shit or genuine human imperfection you have amplified the importance of in your mind
Like real cold truth time 90% of the time when people say a creator did an unforgivable thing itâs been blown way out of proportion or fabricated for clicks
Either they just did a moderately not ok thing that someone who is close to them should educate them about or someone with an axe to grind made some shit up. Like being real honest here.
Iâve seen the most absurd obviously made up shit leveled at creators and screaming assholes go along with it knowing itâs not true and just not caring. Using the willingness to repeat the lie as inclusion to an in group
This is shit most people are not stupid enough to believe but it gets repeated anyways because those people know it means exclusion if they donât. Thatâs what you are up against.
I had a former mutual who would shit talk vaush for example all the time for made up shit but also hung out in his discord and socialized there. Is vaush perfect? No he has some things he can be criticized for but lying doesnât help
But that person did say those things in public because all of their other friends said them and their friendship was contingent on repeating their party lines
Anyways so a lot of parasocial hate is justified after the fact, it was never about those things it was about feeling rejected and not noticed by someone they had a parasocial attachment to. Iâve seen this happen a lot
So honestly? Its some yandere shit. Thats what this is. Thats what parasocial hate is. "if i cant have you i must destroy you"
And then theres the followers of those types who repeat it so they arent faced with the same abuse and rage. Its very much "im more afraid of you than i am of creator x" due to proximity
But that does point to some possible solutions! Take away the yandere and the followers will scatter. How one does that ethically i do not know, id have to give it some thought. But removing them from the equation would be a way to stop this kind of online cyber mobbing.
Oh if you want a litmus test to see if the people around you are vulnerable to this kind of thing, or if you want to spot the yanderes i have something you can try for yourself.
The next time someone repeats something you know to be untrue about a creator give them a little pushback, Nothing extreme, very gentle, very calm, very fact based pushback. See how they react to it.
Ive done this with people before and disproved, factually, with proof, all of their points about a creator and it did not make one bit of difference and all it did was provoke them to lash out at me.
