@Technothepig made a joke in a video from february 2020 about asians during covid-19 that didn’t really sit right with me, from an asian’s perspective - a thread
before i continue, this is NOT a cancelling thread, i am in no way trying to cancel him. this is an informative thread about something he said that made me feel uncomfortable.
i’m going to be talking about something he said in this video. the time stamp is 13:51 !!
(in regards to covid, he said this in the the video) "horrific racism aside, think of how powerful it must be to be an asian right now. like, some person tried to like bother you, you're just minding your business, some guy goes 'give me your lunch money' and you..."
"... just be like, 'oh yeah, heres my- *coughing noises*, here's my lunch money. *coughing noises*. sorry, ive been *coughing* feeling a little sick since i visited my grandparents in wuhan.'"
the video was posted in february 2020, which was when coronavirus started to spread. asians were being targeted and there have been many cases where they have been injured and abused. i feel like this ‘joke’ he had made was something he shouldn’t of said as it was a rough time +
for many asians. many of us were afraid to leave our house because we were afraid of experiencing racism. the racism faced wasn’t the typical slur calling and ‘bat eater’ comments. people were being killed, attacked, robbed, etc. all of it was being ignored by non-asians +
and the many casual acts of racism would just be ignored and excused. i will be linking some articles so that you can get the basic idea of what many asians experienced and were afraid of experiencing.

although i know techno doesn’t really address any ‘controversies’ i hope this thread was informative and at least helped him understand why the joke he made was disrespectful towards asians.
these are just my thoughts personally. if you think otherwise, feel free to share AS LONG AS you are asian yourself. please do not speak over the asian community and be respectful.
