Happy 57th anniversary of the first time Umm Kalthoum performed “Enta Oumri” live :) legend has it that the applause she received afterwards was one of the longest anyone had ever seen/heard. Enjoy!!
Here’s a little story time as well: 1/
As I’ve tweeted before, my grandfather was one of Umm Kalthoum’s go-to sound engineers, especially as she got older. He recorded this song for her and Abd El Wahab! 2/ https://twitter.com/myyshellll/status/1260995662310588416
While they were in the studio, they all noticed a weird noise in the recording. It apparently took them forever trying to figure it out, until my Gido realized a button on Abd El Wahab’s jacket was repeatedly hitting the mic, creating said noise. 3/
So my Gido made the famous composer take off his jacket in the studio mid recording!!
It’s a little silly, but this is the 1st story my dad shared about my Gido and his job, the man I never met, but I always think about it when I listen to this song and get emotional :’) 4/
More “Enta Oumri” trivia: this song was insanely hyped bc it was the 1st collaboration between 2 legends Umm Kalthoum and Abd El Wahab. They hated each other, but Egyptian President Abd El Nasser literally begged them to work together. 5/
The collaboration was appropriately nicknamed لقاء السحاب or “meeting in the clouds” 6/
