People ask me all the time what would fix San Francisco and increasingly I think it's a half-ounce or so of shame
Consider for one sec that the way you've let your streets deteriorate is the city equivalent to the obese couch potato covered in cheeto dust and seriously just stop explaining why it's OK
You should feel ashamed of the fact that your community's women and elderly don't feel safe to leave their homes in the evening and, increasingly, during the day. You should feel ashamed that theft is so normalized that nobody can even really summon much pity for any one victim
Sociopathic indifference isn't stoicism or cool-headed reasoning or rational moral balance, it's just sociopathic indifference
Having lived in both cities, it's clear to me that San Francisco is actually much more shallow than LA, it just costumes itself in moral grandstanding rather than cosmetic procedures
If it's absurd for a city built on plastic surgery to tell the rest of the country how it should look, it's absurd for a city where a child can't consistently leave home without witnessing theft, drug abuse or minor assault to tell the rest of the country what values to have
