1. The recent Holo Icon drop brought a lot of rage into discord and twitter due to a number of factors. I will briefly explore what these were.
2. The price tag of $999 likely led users to think demand would be lower this time around. It was anything but. Users flooded the site, leading to a q of over 20k users
3. Users were initially confused, as the way the "Line" worked was random. I.e., no matter how early you joined the drop, you could be 6999 in a line for 2500 packs. Line also moves very slowly. Waiting for all the users ahead of you to give up and exit the line would take hours
4. But the main problem this time appeared to be a glitch in the q system, allowing users to buy packs directly instead of waiting in line.
5. My first suggestion to @Nbatopshot would be more transparency surrounding their current strategies for the drops and how it they are actually intended to work. We all know its beta mode and won't work properly, but to know the thought process can help assist user expectations
6. Secondly, there seems to be more issues with transparency surrounding some of the functional (or problematic) issues during the drop. Users are getting really confused by seeing 'The line is paused' for example
7. I understand the the process of a "Join Drop" system is a good funnel for traffic to protect the site from traffic spikes and to facilitate the drops in a 'fairer' manner, however, its almost leading to more anger in the community than when the site crashed.
8. This is 100% to do with expectations. Users expect to have a chance if they are in the 'line', and are furious about the multi-hour wait times, to be then faced with a 'sold out' screen
9. I believe randomization is a the best way to solve this. Use the join drop, then run a randomizer which allocates all users in the drop into the available packs for sale.
10. This could be successfully supported by graphics (randomiser wheel? etc) so users have a feeling of being part of the excitement. If you're not chosen, a screen 'enter second chance draw lottery' could be nice. Users could enter their name for a chance at packs not bought
11. I believe suggestions by the community to turn everything into a lottery will remove the excitement from the platform that's involved in buying packs.
12. I understand the the purchase packs from the market feature is underway. One suggestion, which may be ridiculous, is to allow this feature, but have a low cap on the selling price of these packs. This cap could last for a few months, until the packs are worth more
13. Perhaps there could be a common pack drop that is only available for new users within the last month to join. When I joined in October 2020 I was buying 10 packs at a time. I loved this. This experience of one pack at a time is tedious and the excitement has worn off
14. New users could definitely do with a feeling that they are winning. Otherwise this could quickly turn into cryptokitties, where the gap between OGs and new users mirrors that of the real world between the rich and poor.
15. Giving these new users surprise drops, gifts, incentives, challenge discounts (collect less moments and still get challenge), anything, anything. That feeling that the platform is rigged, too hard, too annoying, too broken, is probably all that the new users think of Topshot
16. Because if these new users don't feel like they are winning on some level, the issues in twitter and discord will likely worsen
17. Love everything you've built so far. Looking forward to the rest of this your with you!
